Write 4 page essay on the topic Neurotransmitters and Bipolar disorder.

In acute cases where depression has led to the bipolar changes, she has contemplated committing suicide. Her disorder also affected her health since during low mood episodes she would not eat due to lack of appetite.

The research shows that the brain abnormities can be self inflicted or natural where one is born with the disorder. In Susie’s case, her disorder is caused by both natural and artificial causes. She could have inherited some genes from her grandparents. Her condition later developed due to her childhood experiences. Her parents were always demanding and took her to be much younger than her age. She also claimed that they were over protective. This could have caused enough traumas to trigger her bipolar disorder (Leonard and Jovinelly 2012).

Environmental factors contributed to part of her condition where she claimed her parents did not treat her like other children in the family. Susie also claimed that her parents also contributed since they did not give her the required advice on sexuality. This is evident from the case where she takes on a sexual tone in her manic episodes. Her mother did not advise her on issues of menstruation and she was frightened the first time it happened.

Remarkably, research explains that Susies maternal grandfather suffered from a mood disorder. His situation was worse, and he had to go through Electro Convulsive Therapy (ECT). Her father’s aunt was also diagnosed with depression after she reached menopause. These conditions are proof that she might have inherited her disorder from her great grandparents. Her parents did not take the issue seriously since they did not put Susie under any medication.

Cognitive theories are important in understanding development of an individual’s thoughts. They also provide knowledge on how thoughts are utilized in different moods. One of the scholars of cognitive psychology was Jean Piaget (Ghaemi 2008). He explained in his works that a child thinks differently
