You will prepare and submit a term paper on Ms. Aragon and her young son recently moved to the United States from Mexico. She is considering whether to enroll him in a bilingual education program or immerse him in an English-only school. How would you advise her Why. Your paper should be a minimum of 250 words in length. Discussion It is my honest opinion that the son of Ms. Aragon would receive far more benefits from his education if he attends an English-onlyschool. The reason for this, as far as I am concerned, is a very simple one. The boy already speaks the language of his country of origin at home. He is already well versed in it and does not have to think twice when speaking the language. English then becomes his second language, the language that he has far more limited exposure to. Therefore, he needs all the help that he can get in order to achieve a level of competency in the written and spoken word that is acceptable academically.

By sending him to an an English-only school, the boy will be forced to retrain his brain. He will need to rewire his brain and force it to understand a new language. He might fall behind in his school work at first, but the important thing is that he does the time in order to become competent in the mother tongue of America. That should be the foremost concern of his mother. That her son be given a fighting chance to make himself understood by those around him who do not speak his native tongue and to make sure that he does so adeptly. These objectives can only be achieved if the child is enrolled in a single language, English-only speaking and writing school.

Therefore, I would advise Ms. Aragon of the matter as I see fit. I will explain to her the reasons why she should opt for an English-only school for her son. It is not a matter of keeping the traditions and mother tongue alive for the boy, it is a matter of ensuring that he survives academically, socially, and occupationally in a country where not everyone calls his native language their mother tongue.
