You will prepare and submit a term paper on W2CapD Vision and Mission. Your paper should be a minimum of 250 words in length. Vision and Mission al Affiliation Vision and Mission What is the difference between a vision and a mission? A vision is differentiated from a mission in terms of time frame and overall perspectives. As described, “a vision statement expresses an organizations optimal goal and reason for existence, while a mission statement provides an overview of the groups plans to realize that vision by identifying the service areas, target audience, and values and goals of the organization” (Foundation Center, 2015, p. 1). Wilkinson (2013) further explains that “while a mission explains the overall purpose of the organization – what you do, for whom you do it and the benefit – a vision statement gives the picture of the preferred future… the vision is a statement that describes how the future will look if the organization meets its mission” (Wilkinson, 2013, p. 1). Thus, the mission statement defines the specific strategies that are to be undertaken to ensure that the vision is achieved.

How do values impact the vision and mission of an organization?

Values play a crucial role in the vision and mission of an organization. The beliefs, principles, and philosophies of the officers and leaders in the organization influence the manner by which vision and mission statements are designed. As emphasized, “vision and mission statements should articulate the essence of your organizations beliefs and values and define its place in the world” (Foundation Center, 2015, p. 1). Likewise, core values are further asserted as the “the principles and standards at the very center of our character, and from which we will not budge or stray. (As such), even though we frequently talk about mission and vision first, the basic underlying foundation for both are our core values” (Grusenmeyer, n.d., p. 2). As such, the theoretical or conceptual framework which becomes the foundation of the mission and vision statements are the values set ingrained in the incorporating owners or members of the organization. What they believe they need or want to achieve in the long term would define the mission and vision that would be explicitly communicated to the rest of the stakeholders.
