so, you like that DHS is a reactionary force? Seeing patterns means "bad things" have to occur first. How do you propose that DHS become proactive vice reactive using Inductive reasoning?

Part 2
First off before I get into each of these methods of reasoning I will state that before reading the materiel of this week I had neither knowledge or experience in using them. After reading and doing some research I found that these methods are very helpful when getting to a conclusion or outcome. Inductive reasoning is far more open ended and tentative than it’s opposite, deductive reasoning. Unlike inductive reasoning, deductive reasoning is focused more around finding or verifying a theory. I realized that when persons conducting research, they will not just only use one of these reasoning methods but rather both. This helps the researcher or experimenter to get a more defined conclusion to authenticate their hypothesis.
Delving into what each reasoning method means and their processes, I’ll begin with deductive reasoning. Deductive reasoning with is known as the “top down” approach as begins with the conjuring of a beginning theory. After that theory is gathered and centralized it is then broken down into more of a detailed hypothesis that can be verified. Next, that hypothesis is broken down even further by gathering observations that back up the hypothesis. Lastly, this process is completed by giving the researcher the ability to asses the hypothesis with detailed facts that come from the original theory that it began with. For Example, “All dolphins are mammals, all mammals have kidneys; therefore, all dolphins have kidneys.” (Examples of Deductive Reasoning 2016)
Inductive reasoning is quite the opposite when it comes down to the overall process. Instead of being a precise observation, inductive reasoning leans toward the broader sense of coming to a theory. It is what is known as the, “bottom up” approach. The reason why this approach is known as the “bottom up” approach is that it starts with a detailed observation, moving onto find repetitions and consistencies throughout to find a temporary theory that can be further examined. This process results in the developing of a broad theory. For example, “Jennifer leaves for school at 7:00 a.m. Jennifer is always on time. Jennifer assumes, then, that she will always be on time if she leaves at 7:00 a.m.” (Examples of Deductive Reasoning 2016)
I believe that inductive reasoning is the best reasoning approach and highest form of analysis when it comes to homeland security. The reason I am going with inductive reasoning is because it starts from the bottom up and in security or preventative security you have to know where you have been before you know where you are going. Knowing the base is essential to understanding what will come next.
