Please post assignments to the Blackboard assignment page. The first assignment for the course will be to make a two to three page paper that deals with Chapters 2 and 4 in the Cohen text. You are to pick a playwright not featured in the chapter and research them. It can be any published playwright, but be aware that it will be easier to research if they are well known.
If you are not familiar with MLA/A guidelines for including play titles, character names, and movie/television titles, please inform yourself before writing this paper. The Writing Center on campus is a terrific resource for students of all experience levels. You will find their information in the course syllabus.
NOTE: YOU ARE TO RESEARCH A PLAYWRIGHT, NOT A PLAY. As you will learn in the textbook, playwrights are people who write plays. Be sure you know the distinction.
Reading a sample of the type of dialogue the playwright writes would be beneficial. In fact, reading a whole play by your playwright would be best, but not required. The paper should cover the following:
• Basic bio information.
• Themes common to this playwright.
• Traits of their dialogue.
• Characters they tend to portray.
• Critical response to their work.
The paper should include examples cited in the research. The paper must have three resources cited in a bibliography and must be written in proper format.This assignment is worth 25 points (5 for structure & 20 for content).
