Bosworth UniversityPre-sessional English CoursesThe Foundations of SuccessA. At Bosworth University we offer an excellent range of Pre-sessional English courses for all international students planning to study with us. If you have been offered a place at Bosworth but have not yet achieved the specified English language level, you will automatically be enrolled on the appropriate Pre-sessional course; if you have not yet heard from us, you can contact the Pre-sessional Team directly to request details of your course. For students who have already met the English language requirement for university entry there is no obligation to enrol on a Pre-sessional course; however, you are eligible to join and the courses are highly recommended as a useful introduction to studying at a UK university. For a full list of available options, download the guide: Which Pre-sessional English course is right for me? (PDF)B. If you opt to enrol on one of our Pre-sessional courses, you’ll be placed on the most appropriate course based on your most recent certified English language test results. Pre-sessional study could make the difference between passing and failing your degree programme, or between graduating with a class 2.1 and a 2.2 degree. See what our former students think:I learned so much - it wasn’t just about grammar and vocabulary.Ahn Bo Hyun, Korea(BSc Environmental Science)It really helped me. I would have struggled on my degree without doing this course beforehand.Max, Germany(BA Marketing)I got a lot of useful feedback on my writing - tutors don’t have time for that kind of feedback on my degree course now.Mahmood, Saudi Arabia(MA Social Work)C. General Pre-sessional (GP) courses focus equally on all four language skills and are designed to be interactive; they consist of 18 hours per week of seminars, lectures and individual tutorials, with an additional requirement of 12 hours per week of self-study. The core textbooks used for classwork are selected from a well-established series by a leading publisher; you can find information about them here. Skills Pre-sessional (SP) courses in Academic Writing and Speaking are also available - these are short, full-time courses, available at two levels*. All our GP and SP courses are taught by qualified, experienced teachers, and we make every effort to keep class sizes to no more than 16 students**.D. Students who successfully complete GP courses and pass their final assessments can progress automatically to their degree at Bosworth - you will not be required to take an additional English language test. In the final assessments, students must achieve the entry level required for their degree. In addition, minimum attendance of 80% of all timetabled sessions is required. At the end of the GP course, students receive a certificate which shows their overall attendance and final grades. There are no final assessments on SP courses, but attendance certificates are awarded.*These courses cannot be taken if you are on a General Pre-sessional course; they are specifically for students who have already gained the prerequisite English language level but seek development in academic skills.**In exceptional cases classes may contain up to 25 students. The Pre-sessional Team[email protected] Tel. 0161 234 6765Questions 1-5The text has 4 sections (A-D).
