Creatinine is stored as creatinine phosphate, which is a source of ATP which in turn provides your body with energy.

During rest muscles are provided with energy through the normal . Since muscles do not need much creatinine phosphate for energy production, hence they produce more creatinine then the normal required for use.

During excessive muscular activity energy is required. In such situations , muscles start using the stored creatinine phosphate as a source of energy.

Functions of creatinine phosphate are : 1) act as a source of energy 2) creatinine has the power of slowing down certain diseases e.g. Parkinson's disease.
