Man, over the past years, has become more enlightened as time progresses. He recovered his freedom and liberty because of the knowledge he possessed initially hence civilization has no significant impact as far as the individual’s enlightenment is concerned. This research paper explains the western perception and conception of political civilisation’s role in the enlightenment of the individuals. This research paper as well views enlightenment of individuals as ancient phenomena that naturally emerged from individuals in relation to the rationality people had in the past. Accordingly, man is normally enlightened. He recovers his freedom from the virtue of same rights and freedoms, which was taken away from them either by justified means or through the unjustified means. Through the man’s enlightenment, he normally takes back the justifications depriving them of their freedoms. The social order as a source of enlightenment of man is a sacred form of life that serves as a foundation for the individual’s distinction between good and evil in the society. In the analogy of individuals amongst themselves social order as a right does not come from nature, but it is majorly based on conventions. Rationality enhances the enlightenment of individuals through judging what is evil and what is good for them. Freedom and human authority are established for the benefit of each human race. This is because the human race strength is enough to be his master unless he transforms his power or obedience into duty. Rousseau’s confessions exhibit a wide range of spirited individualism enlightenment. It as well serves as a powerful self-analysis reflection in relation to the individual’s rationality. The philosophical self-exploration views the individual enlightenment as an end in itself. The philosophical attributes of enlightenment cannot, therefore, be compared with other disciplines. This is because the other disciplines are only compared with the process towards achieving the end while individualism enlightenment is basically the end in itself. The celebration of the self becomes very prevalent during the romantic era according to Rousseau’s philosophical view of the individuals enlightenment. During this phase of people’s lives, the crisis is experienced and people’s rationality, and knowledge is put to test in relation to the ways they handle the emerging crisis. An example Rousseau puts across is the outcome of the French revolution where the individual’s aspirations could have been put profitably modified in case the people’s rationality was an outstanding one during this self-exploration era.
