Project Brief: Quality Improvement Initiatives
In Week 1, your instructor will assign you to a team of three to five for the Collaborative Project: Quality Improvement Initiatives.
This project is a scenario-based role-play in which you and your team members will prepare a group presentation for a hospital quarterly meeting. This week, you will communicate with your team to select a hospital to be your employer from the hospitals listed on the Medicare.gov Find and Compare Providers Near YouLinks to an external site. webpage.
- In this scenario, you work in the Department of Quality Improvement (QI) at your team’s chosen hospital.
- Over the next five weeks, your team will develop its unique culture and dynamics. As you and your team members embark on this journey, fostering a culture of trust and collaboration is crucial.
- Your CEO calls on you and your colleagues in the QI department to resolve the low-performing quality and patient safety issues that you all identify for your team’s selected hospital.
Scenario
- The hospital CEO asks your team to present the collaborative quality improvement initiatives in the next hospital quarterly meeting, which is in five weeks.
- You will meet with your team members virtually to elect a team leader to organize the final presentation for the Collaborative Project: Quality Improvement Initiatives assignment.
- You and your team members can begin brainstorming and deciding which low-performing quality and patient safety issues your team will address.
- Your decisions will significantly impact on the quality of care we provide.
- Your decisions will have a significant impact on the quality of care we provide.
- Each team member will work on a unique issue.
- You also need to begin brainstorming the mission and vision statement of the QI department, which you will include as part of the final presentation in Week 5.
- Your team will choose the best virtual meeting method via Zoom, email, or other telecommunication tools.
- Each member is encouraged to work collaboratively, trust each other's abilities, and support one another in learning and completing individual QI initiatives.
Over the next five weeks, your team must develop its culture and dynamics. Team members must work collaboratively, trust each other, and help each other learn and complete individual QI initiatives. This unity will be the cornerstone of your success.
While you each will be writing your own papers for your Week 2, Week 3, and Week 6 assignments, you will need to come together as a team to establish which elements you each will cover. No two team members can research the same initiative.
The Collaborative Project Team Charter can help team leaders facilitate the team processes. Refer to the Examples of QI Initiatives From a Team, to understand how to select a specific measure from the website. Team leaders then need to submit the complete Team's QI Initiatives document to the instructor.
