Question: which grand strategy should the United States employ in any one of the core Eurasian regional theatres (Europe, the Middle East, and East Asia)? Which grand strategy would be a poor choice for your particular region?

Your essay must do the following:

1) clearly state your thesis statement, or claim, in your introduction. State your answer to the question. In addition, summarize your paper in the introductory paragraph. It should be no longer than ½ page.

2) Describe the assumptions of your particular grand strategy. Why is your preferred strategy the best way to deal with the contemporary strategic context of global politics and your particular region of interest? In your response, you must define:

• US national interests within your chosen region.
• The interests or intentions of various states in the region, including US allies and adversaries. Be sure to also consider the sources or origins of allies/adversaries’ interests and intentions.
• Explain how your strategy fulfills US interests.
• Describe the policy actions that POTUS should undertake consistent with your strategy.

3) Explain why this strategy is superior to others. You must establish:

• The assumptions of an opposing grand strategy (context, interests/intentions of other states)
• How that strategy will fail to achieve US interests, and why

4) provide a brief conclusion, no longer than ¼ a page.

Format

This paper should be 6 pages, double-spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman, 1-inch margins. Use parenthetical, Chicago-style author-date citations (Acharya 2015: 13). Also include a references section.

Be sure to proofread your paper prior to submission. Points will be deducted for poorly or hastily written papers. Make sure your argument is logically consistent and understandable to your reader.
