Within Module Case 4 you will develop your Prospectus presentation. This presentation is submitted for your instructor's review. As you continue in your doctoral journey, you will formally present both your Proposal and final Dissertation/DSP to your Chair, committee, and other Trident faculty. The defense of your proposed and completed research is a critical element of the doctoral process.
Case AssignmentPrepare your Dissertation/DSP Prospectus Presentation
During Module 4, your Case assignment is to develop your prospectus and present it to your instructor. Specifically, you are to prepare a PowerPoint Presentation as a visual aide supported by an oral presentation or written presentation script. The presentation should contain all essential information from chapters 1-3 of your dissertation/DSP prospectus.
Assignment Expectations
You will develop a Presentation (10-15 slides) with a recorded narration or written script provided in the form of slide notes. The required Universal Proposal Presentation Template is available under the Forms and Templates tab found in the Doctoral Resource Center. Use this format to prepare your Prospectus Presentation.
In lieu of a synchronous oral presentation of the prospectus, students will provide a recorded presentation or written script of their presentation. The script should provide a narrative that would be presented if an oral presentation of the provided PowerPoint slides were being conducted. The script can be provided in the NOTES section of the PowerPoint slides or in a separate Word document. The script should be designed to facilitate an expected 10- to 15-minute oral presentation.
Length: The written component of this assignment should be 10-15 slides (not counting the reference slide) and a narrative script in the NOTES section or in a separate Word document.
Organization: Topics and chapter section slides should adhere to the order presented in the Dissertation/DSP Template.
Grammar and Spelling: While no points are deducted for minor errors, assignments are expected to adhere to standard guidelines of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence syntax. Points may be deducted if grammar and spelling impact clarity. We encourage you to use tools such as grammarly.com and proofread your paper before submission.
As you complete your assignment, make sure you do the following:
- Stay focused on the essential elements of the prospectus. Do not go off on tangents or devote a lot of space to summarizing general background materials.
- Use evidence from your literature review to justify your study design.
- Cite at least 10-15 credible resources.
Your assignment will be graded using the following criteria:
Assignment-Driven Criteria: Covers all key elements of the assignment in a substantive way.
Critical Thinking: Conceptualizing the problem. Viewpoints and assumptions of experts are analyzed, synthesized, and evaluated. Conclusions are logically presented with appropriate rationale.
Scholarly Writing: Proficiency in scholarly writing, following required structure and organization of the assignment, using relevant and quality sources to support ideas, using in-text citations of sources, and properly formatting references (bibliography).
Professionalism and Timeliness: Taking responsibility for learning; adhering to course requirement policies and expectations; assignment submitted on time or with instructor's pre-approved extension.
