Problem Statement
In managing the Coca-Cola Company, the malfunction of the supply chain component is very critical and can affect the company functioning. The success of the company relies on the management framework of the supply chain. One of the problems has been on the delivery of raw materials by the suppliers, which is not always in line with the scheduled date, and this has brought conflict between the suppliers and the procurement department. Secondly, the poor logistics has caused delays of the raw materials and other products that should enable the company to produce products and deliver them to retailers on time. Third, the conflict between creditors and the Coca-Cola Company has reached a point where deliveries of the company products are not given priority that can meet the demand framework. All these factors combined make the company to experience low production, and this has led to low profits. Moreover, the company has not invested in training employees to manage crisis that aims at dealing with suppliers, this has infuriated many suppliers causing them to delay, and the company has pending payments to suppliers and most of the suppliers have withhold delivering raw materials to the company for the production of coke and other concentrate products.
A survey by Coca-Cola has exposed that suppliers face challenges with sustainable sourcing put at 77% and resource scarcity, and these challenges can influence the future of the business. Supply chain management plays a crucial role to the Coca-Cola Company. It ensures that all the processes function well. The company produces about 2 billion units of products annually to be supplied across territories that the company has established franchise and retailers (Lambert & Cooper, 2000). The supply chain organization ensures that the company procurement, manufacturing, engineering, and sustainability is accomplished. It also works to ensure that the value chain from outsourcing of raw materials, manufacturing, and delivering the product to consumers is accomplished. The success of this process lies on the stakeholders involves, which includes the suppliers, the management, employees, and retailers. It demonstrates that finding a solution to the problem is critical because it is the heart of the company.
In the research carried, the problem is affecting the company is causing big losses. In a benchmarking result, retailers complain that the problem with supply chain management was causing losses. The graph below shows how much retailers have been losing due to the unstable connection in the system:
Losing potential customers is something that the company cannot take for granted because of the competition that is in the soft drink industry. If the Coca-Cola Company cannot address the issue, then it is bound to lose business. It demonstrates that the issue should be solved immediately to avoid losses and the threat of the organization losing business.
