An authorization card is something that would be put together by an employee as a way to get something that employee wants (Legal, n.d.). These forms are legal ways for a union to be a representative for an employee (meant for getting money or other items). Described in an article, there are three ways a union can use these cards to collect things (Legal, n.d.). The union can get 30% of employees to sign these cards it can start a petition for an election. 50% signed by employees can result in the employer getting recognized directly and can be without an election. The employer can decline though, which can result in the union putting on a strike. If there is an over 50% signing by employees, and there is unfair things in the employers, there could be a recognition without an election. This way of bargaining is how employees can speak their minds (Bivens, n.d.).
I would ask the union supports what is going on and if there is any way I could help fix an issue before it gets brought up and is actually recognized. I would try to recognize it first before anything bad for the company comes out. There are some negatives that could happen once a union strike happens. The employer may have a bad reputation after having all these things happen. I feel like it would be my job to make sure employees are the happiest possible and I would do anything to ensure their safety and make sure they are comfortable.
