I will advocate for team reflection in my unit. This requires participation of all members in the unit and hardcore honesty. In one study published in NursingTimes.net, research indicates techniques that can be utilized by nurses to enhance team working, and one of those is team reflection. This activity must be incorporated in to our monthly meetings and must be implemented without any trace of intimidation. Fresh nurses who just joined the unit might be embarrassed to say what is on their mind. But that should not be the case. In order for team working to be efficient and effective, everyone should know what the other is thinking in terms of the unit goals and practices. This will not only help the team to achieve progress but it will also bring a different level of work satisfaction to other nurses working in the same unit as I do. Self-evaluation is also critical to advocating and implementing changes in the workplace. One of my strengths is my commitment to representing the surgical unit as the Chairman for the Unit Practice Council. Each chairman sits on the Shared Leadership Council to advocate for the non-managerial staff by problem-solving, researching and implementing workplace improvements. I am currently using this as a foundation to regenerate out Unit Based Practice Council. We have begun a committee drive to encourage everyone to join and participate on different committees to make our unit a more informed, cohesive, engaged and involved high-performing team based unit.
