                                                                        Fire Incidents Action Plan

Planning is a vital process in firefighting. It helps in the response team to adequately prepare for fire emergencies thereby preventing loss of life and property. When developing and fire incident action plan, the response team should come up with the incident objectives followed by strategic and tactical planning (Ghamry et al., 2017). Incidents objectives give the entire team a clear vision of what should be achieved. Strategic and tactical plans describe how the objectives will be achieved, the resources that will be used, the personnel and expertise required.

The development of meaningful objectives requires the incident officer to gather appropriate information about the firefighting process. The actual conduct of every team depends on their situations, the availability of resources and the scope of their operations (Caban-Martinez et al., 2019). The officer gathers the information regarding both low risk and high-risk fire grounds and the kind of operations that are needed. This information is used to develop the incident objectives which outline what the team needs to achieve by the end of its operations. The objectives are usually different from one organization to another. However, they all share certain objectives which are to save lives, environment and property, and extinguish the fire. The additional objectives are developed based on the area of operation and the nature of the information gathered by the incident officer.

Strategic plans are developed by the top executives and take consideration of the entire team and organization. The planning process begins with the mission of the organization while developing strategies that are used to achieve the long term goals of the organization. Strategy entails coming up with a fundamental plan that efficiently deals with fire incidents. Strategic planning is crucial in combating incidents. Without proper planning and a systematic approach, the response team may not effectively cope with fire incidents. Strategic planning involves three critical issues (Gonzalez-Olabarria et al., 2019). First, it identifies the people who are required to perform certain tasks. At this level of planning, the incidents officer comes up with the response team which includes different professionals. Second, it identifies the role of each person in the team, that is, what they will do. The strategy plan specifies what each member will contribute towards the achievement organizational objectives. For instance, an ideal fire incident response team has a driver, fire extinguishing personnel, first aiders and health professionals, rescuers, telephone operators, security team (crowd controllers) and evacuation guiders. Besides, strategic planning the fire ground in which the team will operate. The team must operate within a designated area. Also, it equips the response team with street maps, addresses, and the names, descriptions and basic plans of buildings.

Tactics support strategies by translating them in departmental plans. Tactical plans describe the role of each department in fulfilling the overall objectives of the organization (Bouchard et al., 2017). Tactics are the specific activities conducted each team member in the process of firefighting. The response teams can help in achieving incident objectives through a proper application of their relevant tactical skills. Some of the tactical operations of a response team include extinguishing the fire and confining it to a small area, rescuing lives, saving properties, protect exposures and ensuring a safer work environment for their fellow staff members.

Fire incidents are best managed through proper planning. When developing objectives, tactics and strategies the incident commander should gather appropriate data. Strategies identify who is included in the response team, what they will do, and where they will perform the duties. Tactics, on the other hand, describes the specific operations of the response team.
