Reflection Reflection Reflection is a fundamental form of self-evaluation that engages the mind of individuals tothink critically about what they do. It correlates with the concept of learning based on experience in that individuals think about what they did or the associated happening at the particular time. Furthermore, it eventually helps one in deciding from the observation what one would do differently to avert a problem or incoordination (Tan, Cashell and Bolderston, 2011). Reflective thinking is a fundamental part of human moral values, which requires a conscious thinking capacity to determine the plight people.

For example, when I joined the preschool for teaching, I have used reflective thinking in my relationship with the existing staff members of the school. The new environment of the school challenged me because I meet people from different backgrounds and having different personalities. The reflective analysis enabled me to determine which members of the staff were outgoing while some were reserved. Additionally, the reflection allowed me identify the status of one’s relationship with other staff members. that is if it is conflicting or healthy. Getting along well with other employees is a necessary idea. Therefore, reflection helped me improve my teamwork capabilities and developed positive interpersonal relationship that promotes harmonious existence at preschool (McCabe, 2006)

Similarly, I used the reflective skills in examining the how effective I was in making the children enjoy their stay at the school, which I did by evaluating how the children behaved when I interacted with them. I reviewed the instances I have interacted with them. whether they were excited or bored during our meeting with them. Additionally, I considered on how they could look forward to our second meeting. whether they could enthusiastically wait for the meeting or just be disgusted at the thought of a possible meeting with them. Performance in a preschool teaching depends significantly on an individual’s ability to capture the attention of the kids and make them develop a liking towards the person interacting with them. Therefore, reflective thinking enabled me to improve my effectiveness in making the young learners develop a love for me as well as gain the knowledge at school. In other words, through reflection one learns the imperative factor that cements one’s skills in the field of dealing with children.

Nevertheless, I have employed the reflective thinking when evaluating my methods of imparting knowledge to the young children. Techniques that are used to impart knowledge include associating rewards with good behavior or excellent performance. Associating punishment with unwanted behaviors and unnecessary failure to catch up on studies is also another method. Additionally, adopting a cordial relationship that make children feel free to ask any question is another method of imparting knowledge in them (Smith, 2009). Consequently, reflection as a personal skill has enabled me to assess which method is most effective in ensuring the end goal is met. Through that, I was able to blend ways of obtaining the maximum benefit of enabling the children gain knowledge.

In conclusion, reflective thinking is a principle skill that people need to develop because it is not like the ordinary thinking. Reflection enables individuals to evaluate their past performance against the set target. The evaluation determines whether the one is on the success route or failure. Irrespective of the outcome, reflection helps in improving the existing state of affairs by suggesting the possible ways of correcting the shortfalls or developing a strategy to achieve extra. In other words, reflection is an in-depth personal critique for continuous improvement.
